Wake up and use the coffee

We all know how good coffee can make you feel on the inside – but did you know that ‘caffeine kick’ is just as effective for your hair and skin, as well?

Currently being hailed as a miracle ingredient, more and more brands are launching product ranges containing caffeine. And you don’t even have to head to the shops, either – you can DIY for some cut-price beauty treats that’ll leave your skin feeling energised.

DIY beauty recipes using coffee grounds

Our top beauty tip is to keep a jar of used coffee grounds in the fridge. When you need a quick pick-me-up, put a teaspoonful of grounds into two scraps of muslin, and lean back with the muslin positioned under your eyes for ten minutes. This will help to reduce under-eye bags and leave your skin tauter.

Next, you can use some of those coffee grounds mixed with olive or coconut oil (roughly 1/3 oil to 2/3 coffee) to make a refreshing body scrub. Leave the scrub on your skin for as long as you can before rinsing, as the caffeine will help to refresh, boost circulation and tone. The antioxidants in coffee also help fight the premature signs of ageing, and brighten dull skin. Be wary about using coffee scrub on your face, though – only superfine espresso grounds are really suitable, as coarser grinds can be too rough.

For super-shiny hair, make a rinse with half a cup of water and a good couple of tablespoons of coffee grounds. Saturate your hair and leave the mixture on as long as possible (at least two minutes) before shampooing and rinsing as normal. You can also add some cinnamon to the coffee mixture for enhanced shine.
