The UK has established a strong café culture over the last 20 years or so. As a result, our high streets are literally lined with both branded and independent coffee shops.
Town centres, train stations, airports and retail parks throughout the UK house over 5000 branded coffee shops and around 5500 independently owned shops. There’s a further 5000 ‘coffee stops’ and ‘coffee 2 go’ stations located in places from service stations to corner shops, totaling in the region of 15,000 outlets to obtain that all important caffeine hit. This figure is set to rise to around 18,000 outlets within the next two years. Nobody can deny the huge expansion coffee chains have witnessed in recent years, however the really great news is that independents are growing strongly too.
Consumers are happy to pay £2.50 upwards for a quality cappuccino, latte or macchiato, despite the double-dip recession. In the UK, around half of consumers favour convenience over brand; in other words, we want coffee quickly and don’t want to have to walk miles to get it. This could explain why coffee outlets are now springing up with only a stones-throw between them. Areas in London and Bristol feature as many as twenty-four coffee shops along one stretch of road. Something to consider however, is that quality supersedes both convenience and brand when it comes to where to visit for a daily caffeine fix. Consumers have become far more discerning about coffee in recent years and as Britain’s cafe culture has grown, so too has consumer interest in the coffee they drink. The superiority of Arabica coffee beans has been highlighted through television and radio commercials and advertising campaigns, prompting curiosity from customers into the blends their favoured coffee shop provides. Where beans are sourced and how they are roasted have also become of increasing significance.
The UK coffee industry is currently worth an estimated £5.8bn per year, which is forecasted to rise to an incredible £7bn by 2015. Now is a great time to capitalise on industry growth, by providing consumers with the excellent coffee they so desire and that’s where rijo42 can help.
Producing a perfect cup of coffee is ultimately down to the commercial coffee machine and coffee beans used. Selecting a coffee machine for your business however, can be a confusing decision. With so many models available it can be difficult to know which machine is right for you; espresso or cappuccino, fresh milk or powdered milk, semi-automatic, automatic, super-automatic, the list goes on.
rijo42 offer free demonstrations of our commercial coffee machines, providing the opportunity to see the machines in action and sample the drinks they produce. As all rijo42 consultants carry bean to cup coffee machines, we are able to provide equipment demonstrations at your premises. This enables your staff and/or customers to also try the drinks and sample our different blends of coffee beans.
rijo42 showroom tours are also available seven days a week. Our state-of-the-art showroom houses our entire range of commercial coffee machines.
