The Ladies Day was held on Friday the 5th October at the Holiday Inn, Bolton and was organised by Boot Out Breast Cancer committee member and friend of rijo42, Lisa Forshaw.
Boot Out Breast Cancer is a charity founded by Debbie Dowie, wife of ex-footballer, manager and pundit Iain Dowie, Debbie set up Boot Out Breast Cancer in August 2010 following her own diagnosis with breast cancer a year earlier. Debbie decided to turn her experience with the disease into a positive one, and the charity has since gone on to raise over £300k for vital diagnostic equipment for NHS hospitals throughout the Northwest.
The Gary Parkinson Trust was established following the former Bolton Wanderers player suffering a massive stroke at his home in September 2010. Gary was left with locked-in syndrome as a result of his stroke and money raised through the charity helps fund physiotherapy for the 45-year-old ex footballer.
rijo42 has supported Boot Out Breast Cancer at previous events, including the BMF Gun Run in September 2011 and the Ladies Night at the Victoria Inn in earlier this year. We strive to support as many charities as possible through our own registered charity, rijo Promises, so when approached by Lisa about supporting this event we were more than happy to oblige.
Waterloo Road actress and 2011 Strictly Come Dancing Runner-Up, Chelsee Healey popped in to support the event. There were stalls, raffles, an auction and entertainment enjoyed by more than 300 women. We donated a rijo42 Uno home coffee machine gift pack and rijo42 Wine Gift Set for the auction and raffle. The event was a great success raising an incredible £9050 for the two charities.
