We’re celebrating our birthday this November at rijo42, and to mark our 24th year as the UK’s largest independent supplier of commercial coffee machines, we organised a charity fundraiser in aid of BBC Children in Need.
rijo42 has supported Children in Need for many years and with the televised appeal coinciding with our 24th birthday, we set ourselves the goal of raising more money than ever before for this wonderful charity.
We held an Open Day at rijo42 HQ on Friday 15th November and invited customers, suppliers, family and friends to help us in our quest to raise funds for Children in Need. The response was fantastic with a great mix of people attending the event to support Children in Need.
Our commercial coffee machine showroom played host to the event and rijo42 staff provided the catering, with all team members donating food items for the buffet. A dear friend of rijo42, Lois Birtwistle, baked a wonderful array of tempting cupcakes and Carr’s Pasties of Bolton very kindly donated seventy-five of their delicious pasties to help raise funds. Thank you to everyone that donated food for the event, your support was greatly appreciated.
We raised funds in several different ways on the day. We had ‘guess the weight of the cake’ where people donated £1 to guess the weight of the delicious cake baked by Cathy Sharpley of our Finance Department. There was also ‘guess how many coffee beans in the jar’ and a charity raffle.
The raffle raised a great amount of money and had some fantastic prizes up for grabs. There was a Four Ball Golf Day at Marriott kindly donated by Add Finance, £50 M&S Voucher donated by F Bender Ltd, an A1 personalised boxed canvas donated by Image Group, £50 John Lewis voucher donated by Barry Callebaut, a meal for two with wine from rijo42 customer Victoria Inn, £50 M&S voucher from leasing company BNP Paribas, £200 of high street vouchers donated by Shire Leasing, a gaming headset and keyboard from rijo42 customer Scan Computers, Emporio Armani perfume donated by Synergy Promotions, a £50 Amazon voucher donated by Rheavendors, £100 worth of iTunes vouchers donated by Brupac, a 10” portable Blu-Ray player and Puchi dog harness set donated by Computer Care, signed Team Prints donated by Manchester United Football Club and bottles of wine donated by Middlewood Solutions, Tailored Education and rijo42 Sales Consultants, Steve Robinson and Tamara Hall. We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated a raffle prize, your generosity helped raise a fantastic amount for Children in Need.
Another massive thank you must go out to five members of the rijo42 Sales Team (well 5 ½ if we count Gizmo the dog). Adam Smith, Phil Goodman, Youssef Mansour, Ben West and James Iddon took on the challenge of running 50k on the treadmill in return for sponsorship for Children in Need. Each taking turn in running mile stints throughout the course of the day, the lads completed their quest in 5 ½ hours and raised £151.42 for Children in Need. Congratulations boys and thank you very much.
Wigan Warriors Head Coach, Shaun Wane popped in to say hello with some prestigious silverware in tow, which was proudly displayed in our showroom. We’d like to say a huge thank you to Shaun for taking the time to drop by and for loaning us the club’s most prized possessions for the afternoon.
We must also say thank you to Ian & Karen Thorpe of Fitness Systems and Sam Aston of Direct Tile & Stone for their generous cash donations.
Overall, the day was a great success and we’re incredibly pleased to say that the event raised in excess of £1200. Children in Need will put this money to great use, helping disadvantaged children throughout the UK.
Thank you to everyone who supported the event, we couldn’t have done it without you!
