On Sunday 4th August, rijo42 attended the Rock It! 2013 music festival in Queen’s Park Bolton. Rock It! approached us about attending this event following the Bolton Hospice fundraiser we supported in Queen’s Park in July.
Rock It! is a community organisation representing young people between the ages of 11 and 21 from the Greater Manchester area, who possess a passion for music and the arts. Rock It! welcomes young people of any ability and the only criteria is that they’re interested in new music.
Funded by the National Lottery, BBC Perfoming Arts Fund, England Arts Council and Youth Fund, Rock It! specialises in the creation of original material, developing young musicians and delivering accreditations through music industry training and a comprehensive volunteer programme. The group provides positive activities and produces trainee music leaders and peer mentors with the skills, knowledge and confidence to move forward, whether going for employment, training or educational opportunities.
The Rock It! Festival 2013 presented the opportunity to showcase the fantastic results this project achieves. The event played host to a variety of live bands and acoustic acts on the day. The weather wasn’t great but many people showed their support to the project by weathering the storm, so to speak.
rijo42 were in attendance, serving coffees to spectators, band members council workers and Rock It! crew. We took along two Brasil bean to cup coffee machines, which delivered freshly ground speciality coffees and hot chocolates throughout the event. Our stall was very busy on the day and we received nothing but great comments regarding the quality of our coffee.
Our very own Big Dave mixed business with pleasure, taking the acoustic stage at Rock It!’s request to perform Smiths classic. He was nervous when first invited to sing, however a double espresso from our Brasil bean to cup coffee machine soon banished his nerves and he was great.
All in all, it was a great day and we look forward to working with Rock It! at future events.
