Mark Davies goes to new lengths for charity

As many of you know, at rijo42 we’re an approved charity partner of Macmillan Cancer Support. We have a huge admiration for the work Macmillan do, which involves supplying nurses, advice and support. In 2015, we’ve pledged to raise a minimum of £42,000 for the charity, which will fund a Macmillan nurse for 42 weeks, to provide expert care and invaluable support to individuals and families living with cancer.

We’ve been delighted with the enthusiasm and creativity shown by our wonderful employees and customers as they help us reach our target, and there’s the story of rijo42 employee Mark Davies, who travelled 2,000 miles in 48 hours for Macmillan.

On Saturday 16th May, Mark left the UK rijo42 headquarters in Bolton to ride the 1,000 miles to the headquarters of our Swiss partner, Aequator AG, in Arbon, Switzerland, on his trusty motorbike.  Leaving at an impressive 1am on Saturday morning, he arrived at the Bad Horn hotel in Arbon at 10.30pm the same day, having been travelling for 21.5 hours with only four stops for re-fuelling, and of, course, some coffee.

Adding to the difficulty of the challenge were delays in the Channel Tunnel, torrential rain and heavy traffic in Belgium. The highlights of the trip were the open stretches of the German Autobahn and riding past the stunning scenery of Lake Constance and the Black Forest, which Mark says were unforgettable experiences.

He was greeted at Aequator AG headquarters with delighted smiles and a much needed double espresso! After a short break, he got right back onto his motorbike, and headed back the thousand miles home to Bolton.

We’re delighted that Mark has exceeded his target of £1,000 for this very worthwhile cause with his total at over £1,450.00 so far. There’s still time to add to the total on Mark’s Just Giving page – all donations and support are greatly appreciated.

We know our staff and customers have much more in store this year, so watch out for more news on our target soon.
