Get the kettle on to celebrate International Friendship Day

International Friendship Day dates back to 1935.  It was introduced by the United States Congress, to emphasise the role played by friendship in promoting peace across the globe. It’s held on the first Sunday of August every year, so this year it falls on the 7th August 2016. The United Nations named Winnie the Pooh as the world’s Ambassador of Friendship in 1997.

The event quickly grew in popularity, and is now celebrated in many countries across the world, including India and the UK. Customs include the exchange of gifts or wristbands, but we think it’s a great excuse to get together with friends, particularly friends you haven’t seen for a while.

How to celebrate International Friendship Day

To us, this sounds like an excuse for a party – a coffee party! Coffee is probably the world’s most sociable drink, and people have gathered to see friends in coffeehouses since around the 14th century. Coffee is now as much a culture as a drink, and ‘joining someone for a coffee’ evokes catching up for a chat as much as enjoying the drink itself. This Sunday 7th August, why not  throw open the doors of your cafe or coffee business to all those customers who have become friends? Everyone values great customer service and likes to be appreciated, so this is a perfect chance to show your best clients who much you appreciate their business. Why not invite a few personal friends along as well, particularly if you haven’t seen them in a while.

Perfect nibbles would be sharing plates of food, small cakes and biscuits – in fact, anything to promote a sociable atmosphere! Don’t forget to stock up on coffee, as well – visit our main website at www.rijo42.co.uk to browse our extensive range, including coffee beans, coffee accessories and coffee ingredients, all at great wholesale prices.
